IWSG: November 2019

What am I insecure about these days? Everything. I haven’t done much writing this year, and it’s the first year since 2015 that I haven’t published anything either. My sales and page reads have plummeted. I just can’t seem to get up any kind of motivation or interest. I’m plenty busy with other things in my life, and I just don’t know if or when I’ll get back to writing.
Question of the Month: What is the weirdest thing you’ve Googled when researching a novel?
I really don’t know. Probably something to do with death or bodily injury? Also a lot of little historical details, like about gloves in Regency England. I have so many bookmarks for those things!
I went through a very long drought as well. I’ve not had a new book in several years and only one short story published this year. It will pass.
I agree with Alex. It will pass. I’m back editing again when a few months ago, I was sure I was done. One day at a time. Keep moving forward!

I think many writers go through the drought which is part of this crazy, rollercoaster journey.
I haven’t published a book… yet.
However, I’m trying to build a rhythm by participating in a 100words100days challenge. The goal is to write at least 100 words, for 100 days – non-stop.
I went through a drought myself. My mother got sick and passed away and like you, I was plenty busy, but not doing any writing. Then I just didn’t feel like it. But once a writer, always a writer, I believe. Eventually, I missed it and came back. It feels a bit like starting over, but it beats giving up.

It will come. And as long as one is enjoying life in other areas, there will always be things to write about.
Perhaps every writer faces a time when words do not come easily. I’ve printed out an article by Denise D. Young, “The Importance of the Pause: Failure, Patience, and Persistence in the Writer’s Journey” (see link below). I do reread this occasionally now. Once, this article made all the difference in my continuing to write. May the coming month be good to you!
