Last night I had a dream that was unlike my usual dreams. Typically I have vivid dreams that tell bizarre stories. Sometimes I have prophetic dreams that cause déjà vu later—you know, that whole “I remember this from a dream” thing. But last night’s . . . It was a very short and simple . . . revelation? Is that the right word? I don’t even know.
There were beings—entities—made all of light. They were great spheres of light, really, maybe like giant will o’ the wisps. That’s the closest example I can come up with. I don’t know where they were; it wasn’t any Earthly place, seemed to be some other realm or dimension.
These beings weren’t doing anything in particular. Just floating around. But then something bigger and more powerful came along (a god of some kind?) and began splitting them in two. And these spheres of lights turned into two people. Just two regular old humans. Sometimes the pairs were male-female, sometimes male-male or female-female.
I’m not sure what happened after that. It seemed like the newly formed people just stumbled away from wherever they were. Out of the presence of God or the gods or something. Into the world maybe.
When I woke up, I had this half memory of Plato saying something about this (turns out it was Aristophanes, prompted by Plato). The story was that people originally had four arms, four legs, and two faces. But when Zeus became concerned that these people might attempt to overthrow the gods, he split them all in two.
Anyway. It was a strange dream. Possibly just my mind dredging up this old tale. But it felt so different from my usual dreams . . . It felt like I had witnessed something, or was being shown something important, something key to my understanding.
